Update Details:

  • Reduce "pinkish-colored band" which may be rarely found in the left side edge of image when the image is shot at ISO 400 or shot without flash on "NATURAL & FLASH MODE".

Important:

  • If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly.
    Carefully read the notes provided here.
  • It is advised to use the AC adapter when updating the firmware as a basic precaution. Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.
  • Firmware updating requires approximately 20 seconds.
  • Once the firmware has been updated, the previous version cannot be restored.

Requirements:

  • FinePix F100fd
  • Formatted memory card
    The firmware updating procedure requires a formatted media (either non-SDHC type SD card or xD-Picture Card). Refer to the Owner's Manual for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
    Note that formatting procedure will delete all data on the media, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
  • Reliable power supply
    Use the AC adapter (AC-5V) and and DC-coupler (CP-50) or fully charged NP-50 battery.
  • USB cable
    Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.

Install Instructions

*These instructions apply to both Windows and Macintosh users.

*The file F100FW.zip is compressed and must be decompressed using an application such as the free Stuffit Expander.  Click HERE for more information.  Once decompressed, the contents (FPUpdate.exe, FPUpdateV.exe, FPUDATETRF.dmg, and FPUPDATE.dat) must be copied to the desktop.

*The software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the computer.

  1. Remove all the USB devices connected to the computer except for the mouse and keyboard.
  2. Connect the camera to the computer.
    * Refer to the FinePix F100fd Owner's Manual (p.126) for more information on connecting the camera.  If FinePixViewer is running automatically, you should terminate it.
  3. Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP users: Double-click the file "FPUpdate.exe" to begin the update.
    Windows Vista users: Double-click the file "FPUpdateV.exe" to begin the update.
    Macintosh users: Double-click the "FPUPDATETRF.dmg" to begin the update.
  4. Click the [OK] button on the window.



     5. Click the (Exit) button on the window. 



     6. Turn the camera off and disconnect the camera from the computer. 

Firmware Update Instructions
*your camera may display different version numbers than the examples below.

Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected.
When the screen shown above appears, press the [OK] button.

Press the [left button] to select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.
Press the [OK] button.
The firmware is then upgraded.
Firmware upgrading takes about 1 minute.

Do not attempt to turn the camera off or use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.
When the screen shown above appears, the firmware upgrade has been successfully completed.

Check the upgraded firmware.
Turn the camera off and turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button again.
Check the firmware version on the LCD display.
The media used for the firmware upgrade should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.

 

Error Messages

Error Message Cause Response
There is no xD-Picture card in the camera. Load the xD-Picture card containing the firmware upgrade into the camera.
The camera cannot read the xD-Picture card because it is not formatted. Reformat the xD-Picture card and then copy the firmware upgrade onto the card again.
The camera cannot read the xD-Picture card. There may be a fault with the card or camera. Consult an authorized FUJIFILM service facility.
The xD-Picture card loaded in the camera does not contain the firmware upgrade. Copy the firmware upgrade onto the card and then reload it into the camera.
The camera cannot read the firmware upgrade file on the xD-Picture card. Download the firmware upgrade again, copy it onto the xD-Picture card again and then load the card into the camera.
The firmware upgrade on the xD-Picture card is no newer than the firmware currently on the camera. The currently installed firmware is the latest version, so no firmware upgrade is required.
The firmware upgrade on the xD-Picture card is not for this camera. Download the correct firmware upgrade for your camera model, copy it onto the xD-Picture card and then load the card into the camera.
The AC adapter is not connected. Connect the AC adapter before upgrading the firmware.
Firmware upgrading was not completed successfully for some reason. Request repairs at an authorized FUJIFILM service facility.
