VOLUNTARY RECALL OF FUJIFILM BC-50 BATTERY CHARGERS

October 8, 2008

Mississauga, ON – FUJIFILM Canada Inc. (“FUJIFILM”) recently learned from its supplier that there may be a problem with the Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers that were manufactured in March 2008 and included in the FinePix F100fd retail box or sold separately as an optional accessory for the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd and F100fd digital cameras.

In rare instances, the power plug on the unit may crack or become detached, posing a potential for an electrical shock or a short.

The voluntary recall is limited to those Fujifilm BC-50 chargers that bear production lot codes WCAA and WCAB (in F100fd retail box), or WBAD and WFBA (sold as an optional accessory).  The codes appear in the lower, right-hand corner on the rear of the battery charger unit.

If you have purchased either the Finepix F100fd or the optional battery charger accessory bearing the above noted production lot codes, please stop using the battery charger immediately and return it to Fujifilm for a replacement at no charge.

(The chargers included in the FinePix F50fd retail camera box are NOT affected.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Why are Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers being recalled?

A:   Fujifilm is voluntarily recalling the BC-50 battery chargers that were manufactured in March 2008 and included in the FinePix F100 digital camera or sold separately as an optional accessory.  In rare instances, due to weakness in the plastic portion of the power plug on the unit, the power plug may crack or become detached from the unit, posing a risk of electrical shock or a short.

Q:   How can I tell if my Fujifilm BC-50 battery charger is subject to the recall?

A:   The Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers that are the subject of the recall can be identified by looking at the production lot code that appears in the lower, right-hand corner on the rear of the unit.  The voluntary recall is limited to those Fujifilm BC-50 chargers that bear production lot codes “WCAA” and “WCAB” (in F100fd retail box), or “WBAD” and “WFBA” (sold as an optional accessory).  There is no problem with the Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers that are included with the Finepix F-50 digital camera or Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers that bear other production lot codes.

Q:   Are there problems with any other models of Fujifilm battery chargers?

A:   No.  This recall is limited to Fujifilm BC-50 battery chargers with the above mentioned lot codes. Fujifilm has not received reports of any problems with other production lot codes of the Fujifilm BC-50 battery charger or with other model numbers of Fujifilm battery chargers.

Q:   I haven’t had any problems with my Fujifilm BC-50 battery charger.  May I continue to use it?

A:   For your safety, if your BC-50 battery charger bears production lot code “WCAA”, “WCAB,” “WBAD” or “WFBA” you should stop using it immediately and participate in this voluntary recall.

Q:   What is the procedure for returning my BC-50 battery charger?

A:   Please contact Fujifilm's customer service department by phone at 1-800-461-0416 or by e-mail at customerservice@fujifilm.ca to request return instructions.
